Tidung Island, Jakarta

Tidung Island, later called by the backpacker Indonesia as the New Paradise, is the largest island among the group of islands in the Thousand Islands. The island is already inhabited by people since the Dutch colonial era. In the book History of Jakarta mentioned that when Fatahillah invaded Malacca, he and his troops to use the existing islands in the Bay of Jakarta as a place to set the strategy. One of the island was named "Tidung" which means shelter.

Tidung Island is the center of Pulau Seribu District. The island is inhabited by more than three thousand head of the family. Most of the inhabitants are fishermen.

To the east of the island there is an island named "Small Tidung." Now both of these islands are connected by a wooden bridge that is very beautiful. Around the bridge there are several fish cages owned by local fishermen.

To reach this island, could be from Port "Muara Angke" Jakarta, or from the Port "Muara Cituis" Tangerang. To the Port of Muara Angke, we can ride public transportation from Grogol. Meanwhile, if passed Tangerang, we can drive from Terminal "Pasar Baru".
